NEWS LETTER - NOVEMBER/DECEMBER/JANUARY 2008

From the Director
Hello everyone, here is our last newsletter for 2007. This season has been a great success because we had marvelous exhibitions and lots of media attention. We are in need of a treasurer for the board of directors. If you would like to or know someone who could fill this role, please get in touch with me. As well, we currently have 56 membership renewals processed. If you have not done so yet, please send in your renewal as soon as you can. We depend so much on your generous support.

Our exhibitions this year have all been well attended and the feedback from everyone has been tremendous. Camerafrontera in the May brought 20 very talented photographic artists to North Bay and gave us some great connections with other organizations and the media attention was well appreciated. We are currently anticipating positive feedback on two grant applications submitted this fall (NOHFC Intern Application and a Canada Council Project Grant, for The Headframe Project). If you have an art project you would like to see happen, there is another Canada Council Project Grant deadline in the spring. Give me a call.

Fundraising: Ontario Arts Foundation

Previous White Water Gallery board members had the foresight to deposit $29,211 into the Ontario Arts Foundation. This foundation invests this money for us and once a year pays us a lump sum of $1566 which always comes in very handy. We now have the opportunity to increase our invested principal. Any money that we raise and send to the Ontario Arts Foundation will be doubled (up to a limit of $1,500). The larger our deposit, the larger our annual payout will be. So, dear devoted gallery member, if you have the vision to send in a donation of say $20, this will become $40 and will continue to bring us money for years to come. This sounds like a winning situation that we should take advantage of. All donations of $20 and over will receive a tax deductible receipt made out joyously in your name. I thank you in advance.

Allan Hirsh, Fundraising Chair and Gallery Co-chair.

BOARD RECRUITMENT

Welcome to new board member: Shelly Rahme

The White Water Gallery welcomes new board member and fellow artist Shelly Rahme. Shelly recently moved to North Bay from the South, seeking a more peaceful and snowy existence. She uses industrial building material to create installations and sculptures that portray landforms and landscapes. After receiving her Masters from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale she moved to Brooklyn, New York. She then tried living in Toronto. She eventually found her way to North Bay to teach.
