...................................................................................................................

My art practice finds its roots in small, personal objects that can be held or touched. I like the intimacy of these objects and their potential to elicit both an emotional and intellectual discourse. I am also interested in the manipulation of diverse and often disparate materials, the relationship objects have with one another and the physical and psychological space they occupy.

For the past four years, I have been analyzing what excites and challenges me as an artist. In my quest to find new meaning in my work without sacrificing my core interests, I began to think of the urban and natural objects I have collected for over twenty-five years as mark-making tools. I combined these found objects with paintings, sculptures, and remnants of materials I had used in previous work.  They have evolved into three-dimensional drawings installed directly on a wall.

I explore line, space and movement using a variety of two and three-dimensional elements. As I create a wall of drawings, I document what I have done, then disassemble the work in order to make room for more drawings and begin again. In this way, memories or associations can be reconfigured and reconsidered in a non-linear context. This process encourages a sense of play and being in the moment, an important element in all my work

The drawings are ephemeral, depending on the materials at hand for their determination. Dates recorded on the walls chart a relationship with the objects. In recent work at Harcourt House Gallery, more attention is devoted to shadows, both real and illusionary. The shadows suggest memories or traces of directions taken or not taken. Like personal maps in an ongoing story, the drawings connect the past to the present.
